Ocmulgee River Bird's Eye View

Elevational Changes

The chart above shows the elevational changes as you move across the Ocmulgee River transect. We used a tool that consisted of two poles and a string that measured the elevation. The poles were attached by the string and had different increments every foot or so. We went across the river using the poles to measure how much the elevation changed. As we got closer to the center of the river, the elevation got deeper.

Clams in the Sand

We had to observe clam population in the river and we found out that the clams like to live deep in the sand. They were more populated deep in the sand where it is wet and dark rather than on the surface.

River Flow

We had to measure flow rate so we took a tennis ball and placed it at a spot upstream and used a stop watch to measure how long it took to flow to another point down stream. We took the distance and divided it by the time to get the flow rate. But we also noticed that the elevation had an impact on the flow rate.
